2nd Terror Bomb foiled in grounds of Woodburne police station
An unexploded pipe-bomb has been recovered from within the perimeter of Woodbourne police station.
A suspicious object was found at the rear of the west Belfast station at around 3.40pm last Saturday and Army explosives experts were called in. The complex was evacuated while the object was examined.
West Belfast Area Commander, Chief Inspector Emma Mooney, condemned those responsible.
She said: “This is the second cowardly attempt to cause an explosion at Woodbourne police station in the space of a month.
“The people responsible have one clear aim — to kill or injure the police officers and staff working there.
“It is sheer luck that this has not been the result of these two attacks.
“There is absolutely no justification for such actions. People in west Belfast do not want violence perpetrated on their doorsteps or on their behalf. As a community we are looking to the future and moving forward. These people are intent on dragging us back. They won’t succeed.”
